This week my featured photographer is Ansel Adams, and no were not related :)
Ansel Adams was born Febuary 2, 1902 in San Diego, California. He was born into a wealthy family, and lived in by the sand dunes beside the Golden Gate Bridge. When he was only 4 years old, he fell to the group during the earthquake of 1907, marking him for life. Soon after her family became bankrupt, and tried to make it work. His mother always blamed his father for not being able to get there family back on their feet again, and did not support Ansel. On the other hand his father supported him fully. Ansel was very shy in school, and had trouble fitting in and dealing with school. Later on in his life they said that he might have been diagnosed with Hyperactiviy and Dyslexia. From this he had trouble in school, and was tutured by his father. He finally managed to earn a " legitimizing diploma " from Mrs. Kate M. Wilkins Private school, which basically is a 8th grade diploma. Ansel has always had a love of the outdoors, and it shows. He took many of his first photographs of the Golden Gate Bridge with his Kodak No.1 box camera, and then it just grew from there. Ansel's main work is just of outside photograpy. He aslo liked to Manipulate photos,Manipulated in this instance meaning altering the clarity or content of the photographed subject matter. Techniques such as "burning" and "dodging", as well as the Zone System, a scientific system developed by Adams, is used specifically to "manipulate" the tonality and give the artist the ability to create as opposed to record. Ansel later died in April 22, 1984.
